The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has publicly distanced itself from any organisation or individual whose teachings promote division, hatred, extremism, intolerance, or discord.

The league declared that such entities “cannot speak on their behalf” and are not affiliated with the apex body of Muslim scholars in the South-West.

In a statement signed by leading Islamic clerics across the region, including the Chief Imams of Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Lagos, the league warned that certain individuals and groups have been parading themselves as its representatives.

The league categorically stated that these groups are not recognised, authorised, or connected to the body established in 1964.

The clerics reaffirmed their commitment to Islamic unity, peaceful coexistence, scholarship, and moral guidance, adding that any teachings promoting division or extremism are contrary to the Qur’an and Sunnah.

The league urged Muslims and the public to verify information through recognised leadership structures and disregard unauthorised representation.

The statement also referenced recent security concerns in the South-West, including the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026.
