Presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has ruled out any possibility of stepping down for any contender ahead of the party’s 2027 presidential primary.

He made the position clear while addressing growing speculation around possible negotiations and alignments within opposition ranks ahead of the next general election.

Hayatu-Deen insisted that his ambition is rooted in what he described as the urgent need for credible and competent leadership in Nigeria.

He argued that the country has continued to struggle with deep economic and security challenges over the years, which he believes can only be addressed through deliberate and visionary governance.

Responding to concerns about facing politically established figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister Rotimi Amaechi, he maintained that the political space remains open to all qualified Nigerians.

According to him, the constitution guarantees equal opportunity for anyone seeking elective office, regardless of status or political influence.

He said Nigeria’s persistent difficulties, including inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and declining public services, reflect years of weak leadership choices.

He contrasted Nigeria’s trajectory with countries that have managed to rebuild stronger institutions after crises, arguing that discipline and consistency in governance remain key missing elements.

“This is a very serious undertaking, and we are at a defining moment in our country’s history,” he said.

He further expressed confidence in his capacity to lead reforms that would improve national productivity and restore public trust in governance. He stressed that his focus would be on economic recovery, human capital development, and inclusive national prosperity.

“I believe I have the experience, ideas, and practical capacity to help turn this country around,” he said.

On internal party dynamics and the possibility of not clinching the ADC ticket, Hayatu-Deen said he remains committed to party unity and discipline. He noted that he would respect the outcome of the primaries and support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s flagbearer.

“I have built a reputation and credibility over many years. Whoever emerges as the candidate will have my full support. I will stand behind that person and work with the party to ensure victory at the polls,” he said.

He also emphasized that the ADC is guided by the principle of party supremacy and urged political actors to focus on building credible alternatives for Nigerians ahead of 2027.

He noted that opposition collaboration may be necessary in certain circumstances, but must remain driven by accountability to citizens.

“Democracy is about offering people choices. Politicians are elected to serve citizens, not themselves. Widespread poverty and low political awareness have weakened citizens’ ability to hold leaders accountable. That must change,” he said.
