A Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has sentenced a man to one month of community service for stealing electrical cables valued at approximately ₦2 million from a mosque located in Wuse II.

The convict was found guilty of theft and mischief after he unlawfully removed electrical installations from the mosque premises. According to court proceedings, the incident occurred at a mosque in the Wuse II area of Abuja, where the suspect allegedly gained access under false pretences before carrying out the theft.

Delivering judgment, the magistrate held that while the offence was serious, the circumstances of the case warranted a non-custodial sentence. The court therefore ordered the defendant to:

Serve one month of community service

Sweep and maintain the mosque premises where the theft took place

Avoid any further criminal conduct during the period of the sentence

The court also noted that the recovered cables, valued at about ₦2 million, had been retrieved by law enforcement authorities.
