Alex Ekubo’s family breaks silence over the actor’s death

The family of popular Nigerian actor Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke has announced his passing, confirming that the award-winning star died at the age of 40 following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

The late actor’s family in an official statement released on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, conveyed the passing of their “beloved Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend” with profound sadness.

The statement said the late actor popularly known as Alex Ekubo, passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after a “brief but courageous battle” with the disease.

“Throughout this difficult journey, he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world,” the family said.

The Ekubo-Okwareke family also appealed for privacy and prayers during this painful period, noting that further details on funeral arrangements would be communicated later.

The family also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers received.

Reports of Ekubo’s passing on May 12, 2026, sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s entertainment industry with colleagues and fans mourning the talented actor.

Born on April 10, 1986, Ekubo rose to prominence after placinge emerging as first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria pageant.

He built a successful career in Nollywood, starring in several movies and earning recognition both for his acting and humanitarian efforts.
