Former Abia State Governor and senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, alongside Chief Emeka Atuma and Chief Uchenna Erondu Jnr., have emerged as winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC conducted its senatorial primaries across Abia State on Monday, with the results announced shortly after the exercise.

Kalu secured the Abia North Senatorial District ticket after defeating his only challenger, Dr. Philips Nto, by a wide margin. According to results announced at the APC collation centre in Umuahia, Kalu polled 65,651 votes, while Nto received 2,103 votes.

The direct primary election took place across the five local government areas and 57 wards in the district. Out of 72,028 registered voters, 69,441 were accredited, while 67,854 valid votes were recorded.

Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Abia North Senatorial District National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Chinedu Kanu, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible. He praised party members and officials for ensuring a smooth process.

In Abia Central Senatorial District, Chief Emeka Atuma clinched the APC ticket after polling 36,935 votes to defeat Senator Nkechi Nworgu, who scored 11,451 votes, and Chief Samuel Onuigbo, who got 5,833 votes. The result was declared by Returning Officer Thomas Nkoro.

For Abia South Senatorial District, Chief Uchenna Erondu Jnr., who represents Obingwa West State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, emerged victorious after winning across the six local government areas in the district.

The results for Abia South were announced at the APC senatorial primary collation centre in Aba by Prof. Emmanuel Agbaeze. Erondu defeated Dr. Nyerere Anyim, Chief Paul Ikonne, and Dr. Blessing Nwagba.

Reacting to his victory, Erondu Jnr. described the primary election as free, fair, and transparent, noting that the direct primary system gave party members the opportunity to decide the outcome openly.
