Former Kaduna State Governor, Ramalan Mukhtar Yero, alongside Shehu Sani and Sunday Katung, have won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary elections in Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The results of the primaries were announced on Monday following the conclusion of voting across the three senatorial districts in the state.
Yero secured victory in the Kaduna North Senatorial District primary after polling 6,060 votes. His closest rival, Muazu Mukaddas, received 1,044 votes, while Bala Ikara garnered 362 votes.
In Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani emerged victorious with 9,105 votes to clinch the APC ticket. The Returning Officer, Samira Jibrin, announced that Yusuf Zailani polled 1,021 votes, while Shettima Yerima, despite withdrawing from the contest, secured 1,253 votes.
Reacting to his victory, Sani thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Uba Sani for their support during the exercise.
He also expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for giving him another opportunity to represent the people, while commending Yerima for stepping down from the race.
Sani urged all aspirants to unite in support of the APC ahead of the 2027 elections and promised to focus on tackling poverty, unemployment, and other national challenges through quality representation and the attraction of federal projects to the constituency.
Meanwhile, Katung won the Kaduna South Senatorial District primary, defeating former Senator Danjuma Laah and Michael Ayuba.
Announcing the results in Jema’a Local Government Area, Returning Officer Prof. John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.
According to the results, Katung polled 7,453 votes, while Danjuma Laah received 1,370 votes and Michael Auta secured 878 votes.
Speaking after the announcement, Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Joseph Bege Gaiya, described the outcome as a true reflection of the wishes of party members at the grassroots level and praised the APC’s internal democratic process.
He expressed confidence that the APC would record major victories in Kaduna State during the 2027 general elections and appealed to aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation and work for the unity and progress of the party.
