Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly denied claims that he struck a secret deal with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over a vice-presidential slot — blasting the allegation as pure fiction.

The drama erupted after ex-Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose alleged that Makinde offered massive financial backing and strategic electoral support in exchange for becoming Atiku’s running mate under the ADC platform. The claim also suggested promises of vote delivery and high-level political bargaining.

But Atiku’s camp has dismissed the story as fabricated gossip. In a fiery response issued by his media aide, the former VP reportedly described the narrative as a desperate attempt to stir controversy and mislead the public.

According to the rebuttal, there were no negotiations, no ₦10 billion pledge, no zoning arrangement, and no secret overseas meetings tied to any such deal. The statement emphasized that Atiku does not engage in under-the-table politics or transactional power-sharing arrangements.

The response further portrayed the allegations as attention-seeking theatrics designed to create political noise.

With both camps digging in, the political temperature appears to be rising — and this latest exchange has only added more fuel to the fire.
