Fear and tension gripped parts of Oyo State after operatives of the state police command reportedly arrested a suspected kidnapper linked to a criminal syndicate, while several of his alleged accomplices escaped into a nearby forest under dramatic circumstances.

According to reports, the arrest followed intelligence reportedly supplied by members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), leading security operatives to launch a targeted operation against the suspected gang.

The spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, revealing that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a recent kidnapping incident that had sparked concern among residents.

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Goni, was reportedly apprehended during the operation as police intensified efforts to dismantle the criminal network believed to be terrorizing parts of the state.

In what appeared to be a tense encounter, some members of the gang allegedly fled into a nearby forest after reportedly sustaining varying degrees of gunshot injuries, while another suspect, identified as Mohammed Sanni, was successfully arrested.

Security operatives also recovered several exhibits believed to be connected to the gang’s activities. Among the items reportedly seized was a Hajoue motorcycle with registration number TUT 824 TY, suspected to have been used for the group’s movement and logistics during operations.

Other materials recovered from the scene included a mobile phone, a pair of slippers, and a cap, all of which are now said to be undergoing forensic examination as investigators dig deeper into the syndicate’s activities.

Police authorities further hinted that the suspect currently in custody has allegedly made useful confessional statements that may help investigators track down other fleeing members of the gang.

Meanwhile, efforts are said to be ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects still on the run, as residents hope the latest breakthrough will help restore calm and strengthen security across affected communities in Oyo State.
