The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has transferred former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Kuje, Abuja to begin serving his 75‑year prison sentence for corruption and money laundering.

A Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the transfer after Mamman was presented before the court by EFCC operatives following his conviction earlier this month. Justice James Omotosho directed that his custodial term commence immediately, saying the sentence takes effect from the day it was pronounced.

The convict was sentenced in absentia on May 13, 2026, after being found guilty of laundering over ₦33.8 billion. He later fled Abuja but was tracked down and arrested in Kaduna State by EFCC operatives.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, the prosecution also filed a consequential application seeking the forfeiture of five properties allegedly linked to Mamman, including luxury apartments, suites and commercial assets in Abuja and Kaduna.

The court adjourned the hearing on the asset forfeiture matter to June 8, 2026, to allow the former minister time to engage legal representation.
