Haven Pediatric Practice has officially launched a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Ikeja, Lagos State, in what healthcare professionals described as a major intervention aimed at improving the survival chances of premature and critically ill babies in Nigeria.
The facility, unveiled today, is a direct response to the growing need for specialised neonatal and pediatric intensive care services, especially at a time when Nigeria continues to rank among countries facing significant challenges in premature infant survival.
Across the world, the dream of every expectant mother is to carry a pregnancy to full term and safely hold a healthy baby. However, for many families, that dream is sometimes interrupted by premature birth, a development that often comes with emotional trauma, fear, and uncertainty.

Medical experts note that in Nigeria, where access to advanced neonatal care remains limited in several parts of the country, the stakes are even higher for babies born too early or with critical health conditions.
To address this challenge, Haven Pediatric Practice said it has combined cutting-edge medical technology with highly trained professionals to create an advanced neonatal and pediatric intensive care facility capable of handling some of the most delicate infant health conditions.
The hospital disclosed that it assembled a dedicated team of experienced neonatologists and pediatric specialists to manage intensive newborn care and other child health emergencies.
Recognising that breathing complications remain one of the greatest challenges faced by premature babies, the facility has also invested in top-grade ventilation systems designed to support extremely low birth weight infants weighing as little as 0.4 kilograms.
Speaking during the launch, the Chief Medical Director of Haven Pediatric Practice, Adebajo Odedina, said the facility represents more than just a hospital expansion project.
“We aren’t just launching a ward; we are deploying a lifeline,” he said.
“By combining world-class ventilators with specialized, experienced medical hands, we are significantly increasing the chances of survival for even our smallest warriors.”
According to the management of the hospital, the new expansion further reinforces Haven Pediatric Practice’s commitment to delivering comprehensive and advanced healthcare services for newborns and children from the very first breath.
The facility added that the project was designed to help bridge the gap between despair and survival for families dealing with preterm births and critical neonatal conditions in Lagos and beyond.
Healthcare stakeholders present at the unveiling commended the initiative, noting that increased investment in neonatal intensive care facilities remains critical to improving infant survival rates and strengthening child healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
