Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has shared her encounter with an authoritative female producer.
While speaking at a recent event, she said a female producer, whose identity she kept under wraps, downgraded her and set conditions before she could work with her.
According to her, the producer told her that the only condition for her to call Mercy for a job is to get her permission before she can work with other people.
“The woman was like, ‘ Who is Mercy? I don’t have time. Better introduce yourself properly, or else I will cut the phone. She said the only Mercy she knows is Mercy Johnson and asked why I was calling her. I told her that her production manager had called her about a job, but there was no follow-up. She asked me where I was, and I told her I was on set in Ibadan filming another movie, and she asked which permission I took to be filming another movie”.
Earlier this month, Aigbe reflected on her career journey as she celebrated 20 years in the industry. Sharing a video of the movie that shot her into stardom, Aigbe noted that, despite being in the industry for over 20 years, she is still here, still evolving, still walking in purpose, and still becoming.
Not done, she wrote a heartfelt note to her fans, appreciating them for love, loyalty and support. She noted how from then and now, they’ve all grown, evolved, and stepped into their own paths, which is beautiful to see.
The wife of Kazim Adeoti had reacted after a fan crowned her the ‘003’ of Nollywood. She replied with a video of herself vibing to Fast Fast Comot, a song by artist Mavo. The lyrics focus on moving quickly, living fast, and not letting anyone hold you back.
Last year, the movie star beat several of her colleagues, such as Meg Otanwa, Tina MBA, Ireti Doyle, Ini Dima Okojie, Omoni Oboli, and Darasimi Nadi, to win Best Supporting Actress for her role in Farmer’s Bride at the AMVCA 11th edition.
Days before the AMVCA, Aigbe reflected on her first AMVCA and noted that she had received several nominations since then. The wife of Kazim Adeoti expressed gratitude despite having been in the industry for over twenty years, she is still relevant and still gets nominations.
Mercy Aigbe made her first foray into Cinema production with Ada Omo Daddy, which grossed N187 million and was the 3rd highest-grossing movie in 2023. This was a huge milestone, especially with competition from Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
Following the success of her first Cinema movie, the producer worked on her second, Thin Line, which was also a success at the Cinema, grossing over N100 million at the box office.
Aigbe shared one of her greatest joys as a filmmaker, which is knowing that her movie resonates with so many people and evokes emotions. She expressed how incredible it was to see her film touch hearts and inspire many.
