I Signed Up And Said I Can Never Be Poor” — Bishop David Oyedepo Speaks On Corporate Tithing

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has shared how his understanding of “corporate tithing” shaped the financial direction of his ministry and what he described as a covenant of prosperity.

Speaking during a recent sermon shared on YouTube, the bishop reflected on a moment in 1982 when he said he embraced what he called a divine covenant for wealth after studying the scriptures.

“When I saw this chapter 8 verse 18 on the covenant platform of empowerment for wealth, I signed up and said, ‘Yay, I can never be poor if this is what it takes,’” he said, referring to a personal spiritual encounter.

According to Oyedepo, that conviction marked a turning point in his life and ministry, as he believed it aligned him with what he described as God’s system for financial empowerment.

The cleric further explained that his revelation of corporate tithing was not limited to individuals alone but also extended to institutions, including the church itself.

“When I saw corporate tithing and that it includes the church… the same way I open the heavens over the lives of individuals through tithe, I open the heavens over the lives of institutions, organizations including churches,” he stated.

Oyedepo said he acted on what he believed was divine instruction, claiming that the idea was not taught to him by any human being but revealed through what he described as spiritual guidance.

“Nobody taught me, sir. The Holy Ghost came into the room and took me through,” he added.

He went on to describe the experience as overwhelming and transformative, saying it influenced how the church operates financially and spiritually.

The bishop also highlighted what he described as visible results of this covenant practice, pointing to church expansion and assets.

He claimed that the ministry recently received additional buses as part of its growth.

“Aren’t you glad to know that God added 50 more buses to our fleet yesterday?” he said.

Oyedepo concluded by reaffirming that his ministry operates under what he called a “covenant of prosperity,” which he believes continues to yield growth and expansion….See More
