The Police Command in Ekiti State has dismissed a police sergeant, Osayingbemi Temitope, following his involvement in an incident linked to illicit drug use. The dismissal was confirmed in a statement released by the command on Friday.

According to the command, Temitope was found guilty after facing an internal disciplinary process. The Ekiti State Police Command said the officer’s conduct violated the Nigeria Police Force’s code of conduct and disciplinary regulations, particularly provisions relating to professional standards and integrity.

“The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope for his involvement in an incident connected to illicit drug use,” the statement read. “The disciplinary action followed a thorough investigation and orderly room trial in line with established procedures.”

The command did not provide full details of the incident but stated that the officer’s actions were deemed incompatible with the standards expected of a member of the force. Police authorities emphasized that the dismissal is part of ongoing efforts to rid the force of personnel whose conduct undermines public trust.

Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Adewale Adeniran, reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and other forms of misconduct among officers. He said the police force would not shield any officer found to have compromised professional ethics, regardless of rank or years of service.

“Any officer caught engaging in criminal or unprofessional behavior will face the full weight of the law and disciplinary measures,” Adeniran said. “This command remains committed to ensuring that only disciplined and responsible officers serve the people of Ekiti State.”

The dismissed sergeant has been stripped of all privileges attached to his rank and handed over for further action where necessary. The command added that the case serves as a warning to other officers against engaging in acts that could tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

Residents and civil society groups in Ekiti have long called for stricter accountability within the police, especially on issues of drug abuse, extortion, and abuse of power. The dismissal has drawn mixed reactions, with some commending the command for acting swiftly, while others urged sustained monitoring to prevent recurrence….See More
