The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Kosofe Local Government has warned politicians against double standards and inflammatory claims that could trigger unrest following the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary in Kosofe Federal Constituency.

P.M.EXPRESS reports as was contained in a press statement issued on Sunday, 17th May, 2026.

The coalition said it was closely monitoring developments after the May 16 primary election. According to the group, the exercise was conducted on Saturday and concluded with the announcement of results by the designated returning officer.

The returning officer, Mr. Gabriel Olusesan Dada, declared Mayor Dele Oshinowo as the winner. He polled 18,614 votes to defeat three other aspirants. Chief Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke scored 7,389 votes, Remi Odunsi got 5,726 votes, and incumbent MHR Hon. Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara received 5,450 votes.

Based on the declared results, the coalition stated that Mayor Oshinowo won by a landslide and emerged as the APC flag bearer for the 2027 general elections.

However, the CSOs expressed concern over contradictory statements from the camp of Hon. Kafilat Ogbara. The group said the camp initially claimed victory but later asserted that the election did not hold.

“This inconsistency is both troubling and capable of generating confusion, tension, and unnecessary political heat within the Kosofe Federal constituency,” the statement read.

The coalition, which described itself as a human rights-driven body with a history in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle, cautioned against actions and narratives that could overheat the polity. It said peace and stability in Kosofe and Lagos State must not be sacrificed for post-primary disputes.

Kosofe, the group noted, is known for its relative peace, political maturity, and civic consciousness. The coalition warned that these values must not be undermined by conflicting claims that could incite unrest or create security challenges for residents.

The CSOs outlined their position, stating that any grievances over the conduct or outcome of the primary should be addressed through established party mechanisms or the courts. They added that no political actor should resort to self-help or inflammatory rhetoric.

They also called on security agencies to checkmate any act or conduct capable of igniting crises in the constituency. The coalition urged all aspirants, supporters, and stakeholders to exercise restraint and prioritize the collective interest of Kosofe above personal ambitions.

“We strongly warn against any attempt to incite violence, mobilize unrest, or create an atmosphere of insecurity within the Kosofe Federal constituency,” the group said.

The coalition concluded by reaffirming its commitment to justice, fairness, and democratic accountability. It said it would continue to monitor developments and speak out to ensure peace, order, and good governance prevail.

The statement was signed by the Convener, Comrade Alex Omotehinse, who provided contact number 08038007036 for further inquiries.
