Prominent political leaders and stakeholders in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have rallied support for Dr Rafiu Ajakaye following his emergence as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The leaders, numbering at least 24 and drawn from the 18 wards in the local government area, described Ajakaye as a credible and development-oriented politician capable of effectively representing the constituency at the National Assembly.
Ajakaye, a former Chief Press Secretary to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, recently emerged victorious in the APC House of Representatives primary election held for the federal constituency.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the APC elders and stakeholders said the former government spokesman had consistently demonstrated commitment to public service, human capital development and infrastructural growth.
The leaders also appealed to other aspirants who participated in the primaries to embrace sportsmanship and support the party’s candidate in the overall interest of the constituency and the APC.
According to the statement, the primary election process was credible and enjoyed the acceptance of the majority of party members and stakeholders across the constituency.

“We are confident that Dr Rafiu Ajakaye will make us proud. We are proud of his pedigree as a gentleman and the former spokesman of the governor who distinguished himself through hard work, respect for elders and passion for development,” the statement read.
The leaders acknowledged that some grievances may have arisen from the outcome of the contest but noted that such disagreements were not unusual in democratic processes where only one candidate could emerge victorious.
“As leaders and stakeholders in Ifelodun, we are 100 per cent behind the candidature of our son. He is a proud son of our local government. One of us is better than none of us, and we urge his fellow aspirants and others who may have any grievance to kindly consider the overall interest of our local government and back him accordingly,” the statement added.
The stakeholders also commended political leaders and aspirants from the Ibolo axis for their support and sportsmanship during the primary process.
They particularly appreciated the aspirants from the axis who openly declared support for Ajakaye on the morning of the election, describing the gesture as worthy of commendation and remembrance.
