The Lagos State Police Command has received additional operational assets from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund in preparation for the planned launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit, as part of ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

The reform initiative is being implemented under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command said the assets are intended to strengthen crime prevention and rapid response operations across Lagos State.

The statement was signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, on Saturday.

“The Lagos State Police Command has received additional operational assets from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to strengthen crime prevention and rapid response operations across the State,” the statement said.

The items presented include operational vehicles and protective gear.

“The operational assets presented to the Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund include two operational vehicles, fifty ballistic helmets, fifty bulletproof vests, and fifty ballistic shields aimed at enhancing the operational capacity, safety, and effectiveness of personnel of the newly established Unit,” it added.

The presentation was made by the Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, who reaffirmed continued support for security agencies in the state.

Presenting the items, he reiterated “the continued commitment to supporting security agencies in the State through the provision of critical operational equipment and logistics necessary for efficient policing and public safety.”

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Command, Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF.

He said the support would enhance the readiness of the unit and improve the Command’s capacity to respond to violent crime.

“The support will significantly boost the operational readiness of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and further enhance the Command’s capacity in combating violent crimes, ensuring rapid response to emergencies, safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State,” the statement added.

He added that the Command remains committed to “effective policing, proactive crime prevention, and improved public safety in line with the reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.”
