Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that Nigerians are becoming more politically conscious and will resist any attempt to impose leaders through “federal might” during the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the 2026 Oyo State International Tourism Summit held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Makinde said the era when politicians could easily manipulate elections through intimidation and influence is gradually coming to an end.

According to the governor, “Nigerians will show politicians pepper,” insisting that citizens are now ready to actively participate in the democratic process rather than remain passive observers. He also stated that while he could recommend a successor for Oyo State, the final decision would rest with the people.

Makinde further warned voters against electing leaders without the competence and capacity to govern effectively, stressing that the impact of poor leadership choices could affect citizens for years after elections are over.
