Odinkalu Reacts After Mutfwang Said Those On Social Media Are The Ones Fueling Attacks In Plateau

Human rights lawyer and former chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has reacted to comments made by Caleb Mutfwang over the ongoing attacks in Plateau State.………

Governor Mutfwang had blamed social media users for contributing to the violence and tension in the state, saying online activities were helping to fuel the attacks.

Reacting through his X account, Odinkalu disagreed with the governor’s position. He argued that the crisis in Plateau State did not start because of social media. According to him, the violence in its current form can be traced back to 1994, long before the rise of platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, smartphones, and other modern social media tools.

Odinkalu’s response suggested that the causes of the conflict are deeper and older than online discussions. His comments have added to the growing debate over who should be blamed for the repeated violence in Plateau communities.

The killings and attacks in parts of Plateau State have remained a major concern for residents and security authorities, with many people calling for stronger action from the government to identify those responsible and stop further violence.…....…
