Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has spoken about the growing tensions, shifting loyalties, and internal challenges facing Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. During an interview on Channels Television, the actor-turned-politician reflected on the nature of political alliances in the country and the importance of consistency among political actors.

While discussing relationships within the opposition camp, Okonkwo criticized what he described as contradictions in the way some politicians treat former allies after political interests change. According to him, political partnerships formed during election periods should not be disregarded simply because individuals decide to pursue different ambitions or alignments later on.

Speaking during the interview, Okonkwo stated, “After Atiku brought you into national politics, you said he is not qualified to be President.” The remark was made in reference to political figures who, in his view, publicly criticize former allies despite previously benefiting from their support and influence.

Okonkwo argued that loyalty, consistency, and political gratitude are necessary qualities for building trust within political parties and coalitions. He noted that frequent public attacks among opposition figures often create confusion among supporters and weaken the credibility of opposition movements seeking to challenge the ruling party.

According to the ADC chieftain, many of the disagreements within opposition parties are driven more by personal ambition, leadership struggles, and questions of credibility than by ideological differences. He warned that these unresolved tensions could reduce the opposition’s chances of presenting a united and effective platform ahead of the next presidential election.

He also addressed the impact of political communication on public perception, stressing that comments made by politicians about former allies can either strengthen or damage coalition-building efforts. Okonkwo explained that careless or inconsistent statements may undermine public confidence and create divisions within party structures.

Furthermore, he said the African Democratic Congress is focused on establishing a more disciplined and united coalition system where internal disputes do not overshadow collective goals. He emphasized that once party primaries and internal contests are concluded, members should unite behind the chosen candidate in order to strengthen the party’s electoral chances.

Okonkwo concluded by urging Nigerian politicians to adopt a more responsible and consistent approach to public political discourse, adding that trust, stability, and long-term cooperation remain essential for any opposition coalition hoping to successfully challenge the incumbent government in 2027…See More
