Former Kano State governor and leader of the NDC coalition, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has strongly denied rumours linking him with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election…WATCH VIDEO HERE
Kwankwaso dismissed the claims during an interview with Global TV, describing those spreading the rumours as people who do not understand politics.
“Only fools will believe that we are working for Tinubu,” Kwankwaso said.
“My supporters and I are working for the NDC and for what we believe will benefit Nigerians,” he added.
The former presidential candidate explained that although he has maintained a long-standing relationship with Tinubu over the years, it does not mean they belong to the same political camp.
According to him, political friendship should not be mistaken for political alliance.
Kwankwaso also accused some individuals close to the President of allegedly hiding the true condition of the country from him.
He claimed that rather than focusing on solving Nigeria’s economic hardship and insecurity, some presidential aides are more interested in convincing governors and politicians to defect into the APC.
The NDC leader further opened up on his alliance with former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Kwankwaso, the coalition carefully examined different political options across Southern Nigeria before eventually settling for Obi as its preferred presidential candidate.
“We looked across the South and concluded that Peter Obi was the best candidate,” he stated.
Kwankwaso added that the coalition still has enough time to mobilise Nigerians and counter what he described as false narratives being spread against the movement.
He insisted that the alliance is focused on offering Nigerians a better alternative and quality leadership ahead of the next general election.
The latest comments are expected to further heat up political conversations across the country as coalition talks and alignments continue ahead of 2027.
