The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly having 339 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, revealed this on Tuesday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Lokoja.

He said the arrest was made on May 9, 2026, at about 2:00pm through intelligence-led policing, strategic stop-and-search operations, and proactive crime prevention measures.

According to the CP, operatives attached to the area command in Kabba intercepted a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE during a routine stop-and-search operation.

Kankarofi said the vehicle was driven by one Chris Amos, 52, while one Bilat Joseph was seated as a passenger.

“Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, the operatives discovered 339 wraps of substances reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside the vehicle,” he said.

The police boss revealed that preliminary investigations showed that the suspects allegedly picked up the consignment from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State on the instruction of a man identified simply as “Alhaji,” whose full identity and whereabouts are still unknown.

“The suspects further stated that the illicit substance was to be delivered to Yola, Adamawa State,” Kankarofi added.

He said the suspects are currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been secured pending the conclusion of investigations.

The commissioner noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network and ensure diligent prosecution of all those connected with the crime.

Kankarofi stressed that illicit drug trafficking remains one of the major factors fuelling violent crimes and criminality in society.

He said, “The command will continue to sustain aggressive operations targeted at dismantling criminal syndicates and preventing the movement of illicit substances through the state.”

The CP assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with other security agencies and members of the public.

He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for his support and strategic leadership, as well as the Kogi State governor for supporting security operations in the state.

Kankarofi further commended residents for providing credible information that has aided the command’s operational successes.
