Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles; live cartridges and other items linked to criminal activities in different parts of the state.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Adeniyi Usman, also known as “Mandela”, 48, and Abiodun Ogunojukan, alias “Ilasa”, 38, were arrested during separate intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives of the Ifo and Sango Divisions.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the operation followed investigations into reported cases of armed robbery and vehicle snatching within the affected divisions.
Babaseyi said operatives of the Ifo Division stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Adeleye area of Itele, Ota, on Sunday after receiving credible intelligence that stolen vehicles were being concealed in the area.
He said the operatives arrived at about 4 p.m., discovered suspected stolen vehicles within the premises and laid ambush for the occupants.
The police spokesperson said the operation later led to the arrest of Usman at about 10:35 p.m.
He said: “A search of the premises led to the recovery of one Toyota Corolla belonging to a complainant, one Toyota Venza allegedly stolen at gunpoint on 26th April 2026 at Ilese-Awo, Abeokuta, and one Honda Crosstour reportedly snatched during a separate armed robbery operation at Ijoko, Ota.”
Babaseyi added that preliminary findings showed the suspect belonged to a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and vehicle theft across Ogun State and neighbouring areas.
He further disclosed that another operation carried out on Monday at Sango-Ota Under Bridge led to the arrest of Ogunojukan.
According to him, the suspect confessed to participating in the crimes and provided useful information that could help investigators track down other fleeing gang members and recover more stolen vehicles.
Recovered exhibits include two live cartridges, foreign currencies, a So-Safe Corps uniform, an MP3 sound system and a plasma television set.
The spokesperson said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for what he described as professionalism and effective intelligence-led policing.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property as well as sustaining the crackdown on criminal elements across the state.
