According to a report by The Sun on Friday, May 15, 2026, stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State on Thursday moved to strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections as leaders, aspirants and party executives gathered in Umuahia for a strategic meeting focused on reconciliation, internal harmony and credible primary elections.

The stakeholders’ meeting, which took place at the newly inaugurated APC State Secretariat located on Finbarrs Road in Umuahia, attracted key figures within the party structure in the state.

Among those present were former Abia State governor and senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and the Abia APC Chairman, Chukwuma Chijoke.

Other participants at the gathering included governorship aspirants such as Henry Ikoh, Mascot Uzor Kalu and Eric Opah.

Also in attendance were local government party chairmen, aspirants for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats, as well as other influential stakeholders within the party.

The meeting was convened amid increasing pressure from party members calling for reconciliation among aggrieved factions, improved internal stability and coordinated mobilisation efforts aimed at repositioning the APC for stronger electoral performance in Abia State ahead of the next general elections.

Party leaders at the meeting stressed the importance of presenting a united front as preparations for the 2027 contests gradually gather momentum across the country.

Speaking during the gathering, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu repeatedly called for peace, understanding and cooperation among party members.

The senator representing Abia North said there was a need for party stakeholders to avoid internal conflicts and work collectively toward strengthening the APC in the state.

He stated that President Bola Tinubu had entrusted him with the responsibility of reconciling party stakeholders and ensuring improved electoral outcomes for the APC in Abia State.

Kalu further urged party leaders and aspirants to embrace dialogue and consensus in order to reduce the number of contestants seeking elective positions within the party.

He noted that excessive competition among aspirants could weaken the APC’s chances during the elections and called for a more strategic approach in managing the party’s internal processes before the primaries.

“It was a mistake we made to say seven forms, to say five forms for one senatorial seat. We can call them inside and plead with them, please drop. We can’t be going for a position of 24 seats and we are going with 63 people. It doesn’t make sense,” he argued….See More
