According to a report by The Sun on Friday, May 15, 2026, stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State on Thursday moved to consolidate the party ahead of the 2027 general elections as top party figures, aspirants and executives gathered in Umuahia for a strategic unity meeting focused on strengthening internal harmony and promoting credible primaries.

The meeting, which took place at the newly inaugurated APC State Secretariat located on Finbarrs Road in Umuahia, attracted several influential members of the party.

Among those present were former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and APC Abia State Chairman, Chukwuma Chijoke.

Also in attendance were governorship aspirants including Henry Ikoh, Mascot Uzor Kalu and Eric Opah, alongside chairmen from different local government areas, aspirants for both the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, as well as other party stakeholders from across the state.

The gathering followed increasing appeals within the APC for reconciliation among members, improved internal stability and a united mobilisation strategy aimed at boosting the party’s performance in Abia State ahead of the next general election cycle.

Party leaders at the meeting stressed the importance of collective efforts in positioning the APC for stronger electoral outings while also working towards securing support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the meeting, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu repeatedly called on party members to embrace unity and mutual understanding while avoiding unnecessary disputes capable of weakening the APC in the state.

The senator, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, stated that President Bola Tinubu had assigned him the responsibility of reconciling aggrieved stakeholders and ensuring that the party records better electoral achievements in Abia State.

Kalu further stressed the need for members to work together irrespective of personal ambitions, maintaining that internal cohesion would remain critical to the party’s success.

He urged party leaders, aspirants and executives to prioritise the interest of the APC and avoid actions that could create further divisions ahead of the primaries and the 2027 elections.

Addressing the issue of party primaries, the former governor maintained that the APC must conduct transparent and credible internal contests without imposing candidates on members.

“Let there be transparent elections. Whoever wins, we will support. If you don’t want to support us, we go to our houses and sit down,” he warned….See More
