The leader of Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, has made a strong case for why Nigerians must use their votes in 2027 to remove President Bola Tinubu’s government from power, citing mounting insecurity, economic suffering, and what he described as a growing threat to democratic values.

Olaitan delivered his remarks at the SDP 2026 National Convention and Presidential Primaries held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi State, where he told delegates and party members that Nigeria was “bleeding” under the current APC-led administration.

On the issue of security, he painted a grim picture of a country gripped by fear, saying citizens can no longer rest easy due to relentless banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and communal violence that have devastated communities and turned farmlands into dangerous zones.

He was equally scathing about the state of the economy, decrying the soaring cost of living that has placed basic necessities beyond the reach of ordinary families, left young people unemployed, and pushed farmers and traders to the edge of survival.

Olaitan also accused the APC government of deliberately weakening opposition parties, arguing that the administration feels threatened by constructive criticism and has worked to fracture rival political groups, thereby eroding the foundations of a healthy multiparty democracy.

He was emphatic that the hardship Nigerians are enduring is not inevitable it is, he argued, the direct consequence of poor policy decisions and economic philosophies that prioritise market interests and elite comfort over the wellbeing of ordinary people.

Framing the 2027 elections as a contest not between ethnic or religious blocs but between the ruling party and a suffering populace, Olaitan positioned the SDP as the most credible vehicle for delivering social justice, economic recovery, and genuine democratic representation.
