  • Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, known as AY, criticized poor governance in Nigeria on social media.
  • He faced backlash for his comments on X (formerly Twitter).
  • AY emphasized the importance of leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.

Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has faced backlash online following a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) where he spoke about poor governance in Nigeria.

The entertainer and father of two criticized bad leadership and advised Nigerians against backing leaders who do not prioritize the welfare of the people.

In his post, he used a metaphor, suggesting that while some individuals may think they are protected or distant from the consequences of a failing system, such “buffers” can eventually disappear, leaving everyone to face the same reality.

He further emphasized that when a system is broken, it ultimately affects all citizens equally, regardless of social class, influence, or political connection.

However, the post triggered mixed reactions on social media. While some users agreed with his message, others strongly criticized him in the comment section.

A number of commenters mocked him by referencing a fire incident that destroyed his property years ago, with some making insensitive remarks suggesting he could face similar misfortune again.

Others brought up his past marriage, alleging political connections in its breakdown and using that as a basis to question his motivation for speaking out against the government.

The controversy has since sparked heated discussions online, with users divided between supporting AY’s views on governance and criticizing both his message and personal life references.

See post below:

Supporting bad governance because it benefits you today is a dangerous gamble.

Many think they can dine with the devil using a long spoon. Sooner or later, the spoon disappears, and they realise they were never exempt from the consequences.

A broken system eventually serves…
