Residents of Kwandawa community in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State are reportedly living in fear after bandits demanded a ₦20 million levy and threatened to force them out of their village if the payment is not made.

The claim was made on Sunday by security analyst and conflict reporter Bakatsine, who said the armed men invaded the community on Saturday night following the reported killing of one of their members.

According to him, the bandits warned residents that they must raise the ₦20 million or face expulsion from the community.

“Last night, bandits reportedly imposed a ₦20 million levy on residents of Kwandawa community in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State, warning that the community must pay if they wished to remain in the village,” Bakatsine stated.

He added that the demand was allegedly linked to the death of a bandit in the area.

Beyond the levy, the attackers were said to have gone from house to house, looting valuables, including bridal gifts and household items belonging to newly married women.

The raid reportedly extended to the neighbouring villages of Tsaraka and Maturi, where similar incidents were recorded, with newlyweds allegedly stripped of their belongings.
