A dream wedding attended by hundreds of family and friends turned into a devastating tragedy when a young airline pilot was killed in a helicopter crash just hours after saying “I do”.

Dave Fiji, 26, a regional pilot for Delta Air Lines subsidiary Endeavour Air, died when the helicopter carrying him and his new bride crashed in a wooded area near Dawsonville, Georgia.
The newlyweds had been travelling to begin their honeymoon after celebrating their wedding earlier that day.
Nearly 400 guests had gathered to witness the couple exchange vows, marking what should have been one of the happiest days of their lives.

Instead, the celebrations ended in heartbreak.
Dave, who was originally from Kerala, India, was travelling with his wife, Jessni, and a helicopter pilot aboard a Robinson R66 helicopter when the aircraft went down in poor weather.
Both Dave and the helicopter pilot were killed in the crash.
Jessni, a nurse, survived the accident but endured a terrifying ordeal. She reportedly remained trapped in the wreckage for several hours before rescuers reached the remote crash site.
She was later taken to the hospital, where she is recovering from her injuries. The tragedy has left family members struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
According to Dave’s father, the young pilot had expressed concerns about the weather before departure.
He reportedly warned that visibility was extremely poor and close to zero. Despite those concerns, the flight proceeded and crashed shortly after taking off.
For those who knew him, the loss is particularly painful because Dave was only beginning what many believed would be a successful aviation career.

He joined Endeavour Air in March 2025 and had quickly earned the respect of colleagues, with friends describing him as ambitious, hardworking and passionate about flying.
In a statement following the accident, Endeavour Air paid tribute to the young first officer.
“The loss of a colleague and friend is deeply felt, and we know this news may be especially difficult for those who knew and worked alongside him,” the airline said.
The contrast between the joy of the wedding and the tragedy that followed has deeply moved many people both within the aviation community and beyond.
What began as a day filled with celebration, family photographs, and hopes for the future ended with loved ones mourning a life cut tragically short.
