The vehicle named Detat, reportedly operating under the Komarock 19C route, was involved in a devastating crash that left passengers trapped inside the wreckage.

How Detat crashed

Sammy Ondimu told NgGossips that the crash happened while the driver was allegedly performing dangerous stunts on the busy road.

Emergency responders and members of the public rushed to the scene in desperate attempts to rescue survivors, as shock and panic engulfed the busy roadway.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, a heartbreaking video shared by Nganya Gallery has circulated online showing one of the victims alive just minutes before the accident.

The young woman, who was among those travelling in the matatu, is seen in a light-hearted moment, a stark and painful contrast to the fatal turn of events that followed.

Passenger died on the spot

She is reported to have died on the spot. The sudden loss has left families and friends devastated, with many taking to social media to express sorrow, disbelief, and grief over the lives cut short.

“It’s so painful losing such a young soul,” Ondimu lamented, echoing the sentiments of many who knew the victims or had been touched by the incident.

Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the crash, with early concerns pointing to possible reckless driving and dangerous manoeuvres on the road.

The incident has reignited public debate on road safety, especially within Nairobi’s matatu sector, where concerns over speeding, overloading, and risky driving behaviour persist.

“Road safety is not a suggestion; it is a responsibility,” he added. “We continue losing young lives on our roads because of preventable mistakes. Every driver must choose caution over speed.”

Kenyans demand stricter regulations

As families begin the painful process of identifying and burying their loved ones, calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations are growing louder.

Residents and road safety advocates are urging drivers to prioritise caution and responsibility, warning that no journey should ever cost a life.

This tragedy adds to a long list of road accidents that continue to claim lives on Kenyan roads, leaving behind grieving families and unanswered questions.

May the departed rest in peace, and may those injured recover fully and swiftly.

Komarock’s Detat matatu involved in accident while allegedly performing stunt

This is not the first time a matatu accident has sparked outrage due to its operation on the road.

Raptor, which belongs to President William Ruto’s youngest son, George Ruto, was recently involved in a minor collision with a motorcycle in Nairobi.

The accident occurred just weeks after the public service vehicle underwent a major makeover, rebranding it with a white finish and the logo of George’s Jamhuri Soccer Academy.
