Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, a senatorial aspirant for the Enugu West District, has formally called on the National Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, to intervene and resolve the party’s primary election dispute in the zone.

In an open letter dated June 10, 2026, Ogbonnia urged the party leadership to ensure strict compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 during the party’s nomination review process.

He alleged that neither a valid primary election nor a legally recognised consensus process has been concluded for the senatorial district.

He stated that although a primary election was scheduled and his supporters turned out in large numbers, the process has not been formally concluded by the party.

Ogbonnia, who described himself as a leading aspirant based on his social, economic, political and intellectual credentials, said his standing had been acknowledged by key party figures, including State Leader Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo and Senatorial Zonal Leader Prof. Udenta Udenta.

Citing Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2026, he stressed that candidates must emerge either through properly conducted party primaries or through a consensus arrangement backed by signed agreements from all aspirants involved.

With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for submission of candidates approaching, he warned that any attempt to submit a name without due process—including his own—could invalidate the party’s nomination for the election.

Ogbonnia further disclosed that he had previously submitted multiple petitions to the party without receiving responses, expressing concern that failure to resolve the matter could lead to legal disputes and possible disqualification.

He urged Senator Dickson to urgently step in to ensure that the party adheres strictly to due process and avoids an electoral crisis ahead of the deadline.

This comes amidst widespread controversies and pushback over the NDC primary elections in Enugu State.

The national secretariat previously disowned unverified online results circulating on social media. It maintains that official results remain under review

To handle escalating tensions, Senator Seriake Dickson and the NDC leadership have ruled out an outright reversal of the primaries.

They have instead set up a National Reconciliation Committee to interface with aggrieved aspirants across affected states
