The Federal Road Safety Corps (Federal Road Safety Corps) has announced a significant reduction in road traffic crashes during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, recording a 27 percent drop compared to the previous year.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri.

According to the report, road traffic crashes decreased from 191 incidents in 2025 to 142 in 2026, marking one of the agency’s strongest safety performances in recent years.

The corps also recorded a decline in the number of people involved in crashes, which fell from 1,364 in 2025 to 1,064 in 2026. In addition, injuries reduced by 25.4 percent, dropping from 576 to 430 within the review period.

Ohaeri attributed the improvement to strengthened traffic enforcement, intensive public awareness campaigns, improved emergency response, and strategic deployment of personnel across major highways nationwide.

He explained that FRSC personnel, alongside Special Marshals and partner agencies, carried out round-the-clock patrols, intelligence-led monitoring, traffic calming operations, and rapid rescue interventions during the festive period.

“These measures helped create safer travel conditions for millions of Nigerians who travelled before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations,” he said.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, also commended the dedication and professionalism of officers and collaborating stakeholders, noting that the results reflected the impact of sustained enforcement and coordinated road safety strategies.

He further appreciated motorists who complied with traffic regulations and safety advisories during the festive season.

Mohammed reiterated the corps’ commitment to further reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities through stronger enforcement, stakeholder engagement, and improved operational efficiency, while urging Nigerians to maintain safe driving habits beyond festive periods.
