  • Daniel Regha has criticised the atmosphere at Alexx Ekubo’s service of songs, saying the late actor’s death at 40 should have been treated as a “gone too soon” moment rather than a celebration of life.
  • He expressed disappointment over what he described as a fashion-focused gathering and questioned the lack of visible sadness among attendees.

Social media commentator Daniel Regha has sparked debate online after criticising the atmosphere at the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.

Daniel Regha argued that the event appeared more like a fashion gathering than a solemn occasion to mourn the actor, who reportedly passed away at the age of 40 after battling kidney cancer.

According to him, Alexx’s death should have been treated as a tragic loss rather than a celebration.

“Alex Ekubo was gone at 40; forty years as a result of kidney cancer. His funeral isn’t a ‘Celebration of Life’ but a Gone Too Soon. I am so disappointed on how celebs turned the event into a fashion event. I couldn’t sense the sadness at the gathering,” Daniel Regha wrote.

The remarks come amid widespread conversations surrounding the service of songs, which drew several celebrities, entertainers and industry stakeholders who gathered to pay their final respects to the late actor.

While some social media users agreed that the event lacked the expected sombre mood, others defended attendees, arguing that grief is expressed differently and should not be judged based on appearances, clothing or outward emotions.

No matter how you die, humans don’t care. As long as you are gone, they do what they want with your funeral. Last last, na who die lose.

@OjoWale6
Are you kidding right now? In as much as it is sad, anyone can wear anything they feel like and project any emotion they feel in that moment.

@OpeyemiSincara
Some emotions are just there and yet won’t reflect on the outside. You got a lot to learn, mano.

@enugudeclu35061
This boy, you no get sense. I pity people that follow the nonsense you post.

@Ashawovirgin_
Wetin dey do this guy self? Make them off clothes go there?

@Desdolaa
Nothing is ever good to you. You must criticise. So the fact they are mourning should make them put on rags?

@testimony_bigt
We’re in the age of social media, where people thrive by making foolish comments to earn relevance. What a sad reality.

@AnthonyOjimadu
Daniel you no get sense? Them for attend the funeral naked sheybi?

Alex Ekubo was gone at 40; Fourty years as a result of kidney cancer. His funeral isn’t a “Celebration of Life” but a Gone Too Soon. I am so disappointed on how celebs turned the event into a fashion event. I couldn’t sense the sadness at the gathering.
