Human rights activist and AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against empowering Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, in response to the rising insecurity in Oyo State and other parts of the country.
Sowore said the federal government must not outsource its constitutional responsibility of securing Nigerians to private individuals or ethnic figures, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains the duty of the President and security agencies.
His warning comes amid growing anger over the abduction of Oyo schoolchildren and teachers, with many Nigerians demanding urgent action to rescue the victims and tackle kidnappers terrorising communities.
Sowore argued that empowering individuals outside formal security structures could worsen ethnic tension, create confusion, and expose the government’s failure to properly secure the country.
He insisted that Tinubu and the service chiefs must focus on tracking down kidnappers, rescuing abducted citizens, and dismantling terrorist networks instead of relying on controversial alternatives.
The comment has sparked fresh debate online, especially as insecurity continues to dominate national discussion ahead of 2027.
