Former Senator representing Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, has rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), days after exiting the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She made her return known on Monday in Abeokuta during the unveiling of the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate in Ogun State, where party members received her at the state secretariat following her recent trip to the United States.

Iyabo Obasanjo expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances in the 2027 governorship election, declaring support for the party’s candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

She described Adebutu as a persistent contender and voiced optimism about his chances:

“This time, God is saying that he will be our next governor now that I am joining the party,” she stated.

The former lawmaker cited dissatisfaction with her treatment in the APC as a major reason for her exit, alleging she was sidelined by party leadership.

She also raised concerns over the party’s governorship primary process that produced Solomon Adeola, claiming that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue.

Although she initially accepted the outcome and publicly supported the party, she said subsequent engagements failed to resolve underlying issues.

Obasanjo hinted at deeper grievances, stating she would speak more on the matter at a later date.

“I actually have a lot to say… there are many people that we shall call out,” she said.

Iyabo Obasanjo previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health from 2003 to 2007 and later represented Ogun Central in the Senate between 2007 and 2011.

She is the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Her latest defection marks a significant development in Ogun State’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties intensify realignments and strategizing.
