Kelvin Kiprono is alleged to have met his fate while taking a bath in a river in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), leaving his relatives devastated.

The son of Bernard Kosgei was reportedly in the company of another man when they went to bathe in the Congo River at an area known as Bolebole.

Speaking to NgGossips, the 21-year-old’s sister, Vivian Jepchirchir, emotionally recounted their last conversation before the tragic incident.

Has Kelvin Kiprono’s body been found?

“I spoke to him on that fateful day, hours before the tragedy. He also talked to our cousin. I remember him looking at me for a long time before telling me he would call me later, as we had been video-calling on WhatsApp,” she said.

Vivian and Kelvin frequently communicated through video calls. She shared their last WhatsApp chats, which captured the final moments of their communication.

Following the news, Vivian said the family is struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking reality as they continue searching for Kelvin’s body.

“There were rumours that his body had been found, but that is not the case. I do not know why people are spreading such rumours. We are waiting for updates today. Those who reported that his body had been found have switched off their phones, but we want to make it clear that his body has not yet been recovered,” she said.

Kelvin Kiprono’s journey to DRC

Vivian disclosed that Kelvin was employed by Haram Company, based in Maili Nne, Uasin Gishu County, where he worked as a conductor and assistant driver, transporting fuel between Kenya and the DRC.

On Wednesday, May 13, Kelvin travelled from Maili Nne to the DRC as part of a fuel transportation assignment.

Due to concerns over Ebola outbreaks in some areas, the transport team used an alternative route through Bolebole, a remote village in Haut-Uele Province in northeastern DRC.

After successfully delivering diesel fuel, the team began their return journey to Kenya, looking forward to reuniting with their loved ones.

When did Kelvin Kiprono die?

On Sunday, June 7, Kelvin informed his family by phone that they were on their way back but had been delayed after the ferry carrying their transit vehicle developed mechanical problems while crossing a river.

On Monday, June 8, at approximately 5pm, the truck driver contacted the family and reported that two men, one Kenyan and one Congolese, had approached Kelvin and invited him to bathe in the river.
