Officers of the Delta State Police Command have arrested some suspected fraudsters with fake 1,600 Dollar bills in a Delta community.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a signed statement, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Thursday.

Edafe stated, “On June 9, 2026, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, commenced surveillance on a five-man syndicate reportedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public using counterfeit United States dollar bills while operating in a red unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.

“The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road, Asaba.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to operating from a hideout in Asaba.

“A follow-up operation was immediately conducted at the location, where operatives recovered 1,600 counterfeit United States Dollar notes and military camouflage concealed within the premises.”

The police spokesman affirmed that an investigation is ongoing to unravel the full scope of the syndicate’s activities.

In a separate operation on Tuesday, at about 11:15hrs, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on actionable intelligence, stormed Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, where two female suspects were apprehended.

The PPRO disclosed that the suspects, identified as Ifeoma Egbule (36 years) and Anayeokwu Florence (51 years), were arrested in possession of substantial quantities of suspected illicit substances, including GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis and Canadian Loud.

The exhibits were recovered and taken into custody alongside the suspects.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects were actively involved in the distribution of the prohibited substances within the area.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug distribution network, the police spokesman stated.

In a swift response, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has commended the operatives “for their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to duty”.

The CP reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Delta state.

Recall that in May, the Ondo State Police Command arrested six men in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in connection with fraudulent activities that occurred in Ondo town.

The suspects are Adeola Kolawole (56), Alhaji Gani Bello (73), Oladoja Akeem (56), Wasiu Adigun (55), Azeez Yusuf (49) and Ojo Mudasiru (40).
