The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a 26-year-old woman abducted in Owo and arrested four suspects in connection with the incident, following a coordinated security operation involving police operatives, Amotekun corps, local hunters and vigilantes.

The Command said the victim, Miss Ogechi John, was abducted on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Gozako Filling Station along the Emure–Akure Expressway by unidentified men who arrived in an ash-coloured unregistered Toyota Camry before fleeing the scene.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Command immediately launched a joint response after receiving a distress report.

“The Command immediately activated a coordinated response alongside Amotekun, local hunters and vigilantes,” the statement said.

According to the police, strategic entry and exit points within Owo and surrounding communities were secured. At the same time, tactical teams combed nearby bushes and possible escape routes in search of the victim and suspects.

The operation led to the discovery of the suspected getaway vehicle abandoned in a bush at Ojana, Owo. Acting on intelligence gathered during the search, police arrested three suspects found in possession of a lady’s motorcycle believed to be linked to the case.

The suspects were identified as Friday Shola, 27; Friday Monday, 21; Osho Joseph, 24; and Lawal Mariam.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects allegedly disclosed that the abandoned vehicle had been handed over to a herbalist identified as Lawal Lucky of Idimepe Street, Owo, who is currently at large.

The police confirmed that the victim was eventually rescued after sustained pressure and intelligence-led operations and is currently receiving support.

“Most importantly, sustained operational pressure and intelligence-driven efforts by the police culminated in the successful rescue of the victim,” the statement added.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their swift response, describing the operation as a demonstration of professionalism and resilience.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that “criminal elements will continue to find no safe haven within Ondo State,” while urging residents to support security agencies with credible information.

The Command added that efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects and others allegedly connected to the crime, as investigations continue.
