Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the worsening insecurity across the country.
Speaking during an interview in Washington DC, United States, Obi said Nigeria’s security situation has continued to deteriorate while political leaders appear more focused on the 2027 elections.
According to him, as Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu must take full responsibility for ensuring the safe rescue of abducted schoolchildren and other Nigerians held captive by kidnappers.
Obi said the continued abduction of citizens in Oyo and other parts of the country shows that government must act with greater urgency and seriousness.
He accused the administration of paying more attention to political survival than the safety and welfare of Nigerians.
The former Anambra State governor said the first duty of any government is to protect lives and property, stressing that no nation can progress when citizens live in fear.
Obi urged the Federal Government to prioritise rescue operations, strengthen security coordination and stop treating insecurity as a secondary issue.
