In a widely circulated post on TikTok, the student directly links frustration among learners to the incident, citing sudden academic pressure and unmet promises by the school administration.

“So apparently some Form 3 decided to burn the dorm because exams were brought all over sudden even before anyone has revised anything,” the student wrote.

She further claimed that tensions were also fueled by grievances over a cancelled school retreat.

“Because the Grade 10 were supposed to be taken for a retreat and they were never taken, so the best way they could do ni kuchoma dorm,” she added.

“I wish they could have alerted all of us to get out of the dorm before creating such a scenario… the cries won’t go waste 😭😭😭 May their souls rest in peace 🕊️🕊️,” she wrote.

Utumishi Girls arson caught on CCTV footage

Her remarks come as police investigations continue to rely heavily on CCTV footage from the school, which has become central in reconstructing the final moments before the tragedy.

As reported, the footage shows a group of students moving into the dormitory shortly before midnight, reportedly coordinating their actions before igniting a fire at the entrance area using flammable materials.

The blaze spread rapidly through the overcrowded dormitory, trapping sleeping students and cutting off the main exit route.

The inferno tore through the upper floor of the dormitory housing over 200 students, forcing desperate escapes as some jumped from windows to survive. Emergency responders later confirmed that a locked or blocked exit worsened the casualty toll.

Authorities have since arrested several students in connection with the incident as forensic analysis of CCTV footage continues.
