The mother of a 23-year-old Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officer who perished in a helicopter crash alongside Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno has finally received a new home.
Amos Rotich was among the six people who lost their lives in the February 28 tragedy, which plunged the country into mourning.
During a memorial service held in honour of the victims, Amos’s mother tearfully spoke about how her family had been left devastated, as her son was their sole breadwinner.

She revealed that the 23-year-old supported his siblings’ education through his job and had been the family’s greatest source of hope before his untimely death.
Her emotional appeal touched the heart of President William Ruto, who directed Belgut MP Nelson Koech to support one of Amos’s siblings through university.
However, the legislator went a step further. After visiting the grieving woman at her home and witnessing the conditions in which she lived, he promised to build her a permanent house.

About four months later, Koech fulfilled his promise and handed over a stunning five-bedroom permanent house to Amos’s mother.
The generous gesture left the woman overwhelmed with joy and emotion as she finally stepped into her new home.
The Belgut MP personally oversaw the family’s smooth relocation to the house, earning praise from residents and social media users alike.

He also promised to fully furnish the home, offering a fresh start to a woman still mourning the loss of her beloved son.
Speaking to NgGossips, Kelvin Kipchirchir, a resident, said Amos’s mother and her family expressed deep gratitude for the support and compassion shown to them during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
“The neighbours and members of the community have described Koech’s fulfilment of the promise as a powerful reminder that genuine leadership is measured not only by words but also by a willingness to support citizens in their time of need,” said Kipchirchir.
