Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving stable electricity supply across the state through strategic partnerships and reforms in the power sector.

Governor Alex Otti made this known while receiving the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the , Engr. Jennifer Adighije, and her management team during a courtesy visit to his office.

The governor commended the revival of the Alaoji Power Plant in Aba, describing it as a major milestone in the effort to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Abia State and beyond.

According to him, the power plant is currently dispatching about 375 megawatts to the national grid, with plans underway to increase capacity to nearly 800 megawatts and eventually 1,100 megawatts in the future.

Otti stated that electricity remains critical to the economic growth and social development agenda of his administration, stressing that reforms in the sector have been prioritised since he assumed office.

He noted that the state government had already taken steps to ring-fence the Aba industrial cluster and was concluding arrangements to acquire the Umuahia electricity axis of the (EEDC).

According to Governor Alex Otti, the moves are aimed at placing electricity generation, regulation, and distribution substantially under the control of the Abia State Government.

The governor expressed optimism that collaboration with NDPHC would enable the state to wheel power directly from the Alaoji Power Plant to the remaining eight local government areas outside the Aba corridor.

He added that the initiative would ensure reliable electricity supply to homes, schools, hospitals, and industries across the state.

“Together, we are building the infrastructure that powers life, production, and prosperity. Abia is ready to lead the way in energy independence,” Alex Otti said.
