President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in a major shake-up of Nigeria’s education administration…WATCH VIDEO HERE
The appointment was confirmed on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Professor Aina will officially take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede when his second term expires on July 31, 2026.
The Presidency said the new appointment is aimed at strengthening the examination body and improving its digital and operational systems.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would bring “vast experience, knowledge, and practical insight” to further modernise JAMB and build on the reforms already achieved under the outgoing registrar.
Professor Aina, a Computer Engineering expert, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field.
He holds degrees in Computer Systems Engineering, Internet Computing, and Digital Signal Processing from top UK universities, alongside advanced management training from the Lagos Business School.
Before his appointment, he worked extensively in national examination systems and digital infrastructure reforms, with advisory roles across several education agencies in Nigeria.
He has also consulted for major examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, focusing on ICT-driven examination integrity and system automation.
At just 39, Aina is set to make history as one of the youngest individuals ever to head a major federal education agency in Nigeria.
His appointment has already sparked discussions across the education sector, with many describing it as a shift toward technology-driven reforms in national examinations.
Further details on his official assumption of office are expected closer to the transition date.
