Hon. Tare Porri, who represents Ekeremor Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has stepped back from the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket just hours before delegates were set to cast their votes on May 19, 2026.
The sitting lawmaker, who had been seeking re-election through the party’s primary process, announced his withdrawal following what he described as wide consultations with family members, constituents, community stakeholders, and party leadership.
While conceding the contest, Porri commended the APC hierarchy for conducting a transparent and fair process, and reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the party. He pledged full support for whichever candidate eventually clinches the ticket.
The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and state APC Chairman Warman Ogoriba for their roles and leadership.
“I remain committed to my legislative duties and to the party,” Porri stated, urging his supporters to remain composed and stay the course.
He further assured the people of Ekeremor Constituency 1 that he would continue to discharge his responsibilities as their representative until the conclusion of his current term.
