The Ekiti State Police Command has terminated the service of a police sergeant identified as Osayingbemi Temitope, following his involvement in a drug-related incident that drew public attention.
Command spokesperson SP Sunday Abutu confirmed the development in an official statement released in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
He explained that the officer was filmed in a widely circulated video displaying unusual and erratic behavior in Ikole-Ekiti on May 9, allegedly after consuming prohibited substances.
Following the incident, the officer was promptly taken through both medical and psychological assessments, as well as internal disciplinary procedures.
While the psychological evaluation found him to be mentally stable, the medical examination detected traces of tobacco and amphetamine in his system.
The officer subsequently admitted to taking illicit drugs during further questioning.
After the conclusion of the disciplinary process, the officer was found guilty of misconduct and recommended for dismissal a recommendation that was approved and enforced immediately.
The spokesperson used the occasion to reaffirm the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline and unprofessional conduct, stressing that no behavior capable of damaging the image of the police would be overlooked.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Falade Micheal, also urged all officers under his command to remain committed to professionalism, accountability, discipline, and integrity in the performance of their duties.
