Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has publicly withdrawn his support for Lagos lawmaker, Desmond Elliott, over allegations linked to the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly during the Obasa impeachment saga.

Speaking on the controversy, Gbajabiamila revealed that he nearly lost his position as Chief of Staff after his name was allegedly linked to the impeachment plot.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu summoned him to his Abuja residence during the crisis and questioned him about Desmond Elliott’s alleged involvement in moves against former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila said he initially defended Elliott, insisting that the actor-turned-politician was not part of the group accused of destabilising the Lagos Assembly. However, Tinubu reportedly maintained that intelligence available to him showed otherwise.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives disclosed that he immediately contacted Elliott and advised him to distance himself from the group if he was truly involved.

He further revealed that three days later, the Director-General of the DSS allegedly informed him that his own name was being mentioned as one of those backing the impeachment move because of his relationship with Elliott.

Gbajabiamila said he again reached out to Elliott and urged him to publicly deny involvement in the crisis, but claimed the lawmaker never issued any statement.

The Chief of Staff stated that due to the situation and the political implications surrounding the impeachment saga, he has now withdrawn his support for Elliott’s bid for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
