Popular Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has opened up about her relationship status and personal views on marriage, stating that she would rather remain single than succumb to societal pressure to enter what she described as a “marriage of convenience.”………
The actress made the statement in a post shared on her official Instagram page, where she addressed the growing trend of public criticism directed at unmarried women despite the increasing number of highly publicized marital crises involving celebrities and public figures.
In her message, Sarah Martins questioned why many people continue to shame women who choose to remain single, especially at a time when several marriages in the public eye are facing serious challenges, controversies, and emotional breakdowns.
According to the actress, personal peace, happiness, and self-worth are more important than rushing into marriage simply to satisfy societal expectations or avoid criticism from others.
Speaking in the post, she said, “With all the marriage crises going on lately, you people still shame women for choosing to stay unmarried? I’d rather stay single than allow you all to bully me into a marriage of convenience.”
She further explained that she is currently focused on her emotional well-being and self-love, insisting that she would only settle down when she meets someone genuinely compatible with her values and aspirations.
According to Sarah Martins, “I’m currently prioritizing my peace and loving myself more, and if a good man comes later, then I will definitely settle, but until then, I refuse to be pressured by society into making decisions that won’t bring me happiness.”
The actress added that many women are often forced into unhappy marriages because of societal pressure, family expectations, and fear of public judgment, noting that such situations frequently end in emotional trauma and regret.
She stated, “A lot of people are in unhappy marriages today because they were scared of being called single at a certain age. Marriage is not a competition, and being unmarried does not make anybody less valuable.” she added.
