Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has reacted strongly to a recent comment made by former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, regarding his pledge to serve only one term if elected President of Nigeria.………
Obi had earlier stated that if elected, he would not remain in office beyond four years, insisting that effective leadership should not require extended tenure. He emphasized that his commitment to a single term would be absolute.
Reacting via his official X account, Onanuga dismissed Obi’s statement, describing him as untrustworthy and questioning the credibility of his promise.
He referenced Obi’s past political movements, alleging that the former governor had previously made commitments in earlier parties before eventually leaving them, suggesting a pattern of inconsistency.
Onanuga further stated that anyone who believes Obi’s promise to serve only one term “will believe anything,” expressing doubt over the sincerity of the pledge.
The exchange has since generated debate online, with supporters and critics of both political figures weighing in on Obi’s statement and Onanuga’s response.
