The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a fish seller and two women over an alleged attempt to engage in immoral acts in the state.

The Director of Public Enlightenment of the board, Auwalu Sheshe, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended during an operation at the Sheikh Muhammad Nasiru Kabara Housing Estate, popularly known as Bandirawo Housing Estate, located along Daura Road in Kano.

Sheshe said the raid was conducted under the leadership of Hafizu Garba Adakawa.

During the operation, officials arrested a woman identified as Khadija Ahmad, a 30-year-old indigene of Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that Khadija allegedly rented out rooms in the apartment she occupied with her children for prostitution in exchange for money.

According to him, the suspect claimed the house had been given to her by a woman who had travelled to Egypt and stated that similar activities were common within the neighbourhood.

The statement added that Hisbah operatives also found a 35-year-old fish seller, Ali Abubakar, from the Kano Cooperative area, alongside a woman identified as Fatima Abubakar, 28, from the Niger Republic, in one of the rooms.

The board alleged that the pair were preparing to engage in immoral conduct when they were apprehended.

“The suspects later told the Hisbah authorities that it was their first time engaging in such an act and promised not to repeat it.

“They appealed for forgiveness. The Board subsequently arraigned them before the court of Malam Sani Tanimu Hausawa, located within the premises of the Hisbah Board, for further legal action,” the statement added.

The Kano State Hisbah Board reiterated its commitment to tackling immoral activities across the state.
