How Nairobi man budgeted his KSh 15k salary
In a TikTok video that gave tips on how to survive with such a meagre salary in Nairobi, Beo said he opted for a KSh 3,000 rent arrangement, a move that allowed him to allocate the rest of his income carefully across essential expenses.
“I lived in a house in Kayole whose rent was KSh 3,000. You cannot earn KSh 15k and opt for a KSh 7000 house,” he said.
He explained that he also monitored his spending closely, ensuring that even small purchases were accounted for in his monthly plan. Despite the tight budget, he remained aware that his situation was temporary and continued seeking better opportunities to improve his earnings.

“You can’t be comfortable in such a situation. So sought better jobs and opportunities, and I only moved from my cheap house after the better job came my way,” he added.
Beo said for food, he relied partly on supplies from home, such as vegetables, omena, and cereals, which reduced his grocery expenses significantly.
He only budgeted for a few additional essentials, allowing him to stretch his limited income further. This simple food strategy played a major role in helping him stay within his KSh 15,000 budget each month.
He advised those earning such an income to avoid additional responsibilities, like dating, which he said would have stretched him more than his financial capabilities.
