The unsettling call informed them that their daughter, a Grade 8 learner at St Teresa’s Girls Primary School, had been found unresponsive in the dormitory and later confirmed dead in the hospital.

According to Ndungu Nyoro, Olive had reportedly been in good health the night before, followed her usual routine, and went to bed like any other school day.

At this public boarding school, pupils typically wake up at around 4.30 am to prepare for morning preps and classes. But on Wednesday morning, something was not right.

When her roommate tried to wake her, there was no response. At first, it may have seemed like deep sleep or fatigue, but concern quickly grew when repeated attempts to rouse her failed.

The matter was immediately reported to a teacher, triggering a rapid response from the school. Olive was rushed to the hospital, but doctors confirmed she had already passed away.

The news sent shockwaves through the school community and beyond, leaving staff and learners struggling to comprehend what had happened to a child who, just hours earlier, had been seemingly well.

By the time her mother arrived at the hospital, she was met with the devastating reality no parent is ever prepared for; her daughter’s body had already turned cold.

The grief in that moment, described by those present as overwhelming, marked the beginning of an unbearable journey for the family.

In a move that has drawn concern from parents, the school only communicated the incident to other guardians later in the evening, at around 6 pm, via text message informing them of Olive’s death.

As of the time of filing this report, no further official communication has been issued, leaving many questions unanswered.

Across the school community, shock has been mixed with confusion and anxiety. Parents are now questioning what could have happened during the night, especially given that Olive had gone to bed in normal health.

While sudden deaths in young people are rare, they do occur for a range of medical reasons, often undetected without prior symptoms.

However, in this case, no official explanation has yet been provided, and authorities are expected to carry out investigations to determine the cause.

For classmates and teachers, Olive’s death has left a painful silence in the corridors and dormitories of the school.
